Hunting for Spittle Bugs
Today we rode our bikes over to check out some spittle bugs.
We looked them up and the adults are called "frog hoppers." The babies are called nymphs and they create spit to hide themselves from predators and parasites. It also doubles as heat control. Imagine spit as an airconditioner! If you were a tiny bug out in the heat would you want spit?
